Well, a great day at Staithes. Inside and outside, above the ground and firmly on the ground. Plus we had a visitor who knew of Liitlebeck Shed and had read about the Staithes Shed. Offering gifts of hand tools and whatever he discovers in house clearance:-). See the pictures below.
We are in the week of the NY High Sheriff’s Dragon’s Den contest. On Wednesday evening near Malton. There are 4 other very worthy contestants and we each receive a “guaranteed” £2500 but with the opportunity for more. There is a small band of Shedders attending ready to face a place where there be Dragons!!
Then this afternoon we had an email to say that SAMS is a finalist in the NYCC Community Awards (Best Group Category). The awards will be announced in Harrogate at the North Yorkshire Wider Partnerships Conference. ~40 nominations down to 6 and now 4 in the final.
Not everything in the world of Sheds is perfect, but all the Shedders (Littlebeck, Whitby and Staithes) can be proud of what has been done by them – they make the Shed. Importantly, they also provide a place of caring about and for each other.
Today we also learned from People’s Health Trust that our 6 month report on progress at Staithes has been “signed off” which allows us to move to the next 6 months (and to starting the Women’s Shed in Staithes) with a second tranche of funding released. In a months time the switch of the project from SAMS to the new Staithes Area Sheds registered charity should take place.
We must always appreciate funders in any guise because they are partners in our work who facilitate the work we do and the outcomes of people “coming in from the cold”.
